Connecting Threads

Thanks to Amanda Jean at crazymomquilts for blogging about the site Connecting Threads.  Received my first order from them and it was a pleasure, from start to finish.

My grandaughter, Breagha, is going to love this Sunshine Quilt as soon as Grandma gets it made.

Actually, I ordered two of the kits so I could make the quilt bigger.  And of course, I had to order a tiny bit of additional fabric while I was there.

Breagha's Newest Quilt

Finished this quilt last night for my precious grandaughter, Breagha.

A special thank you is in order for Susan Miller Fitzgerald who sent me a link to a quilter's blog that I copied this pattern from.  This was such a fun quilt to make and I'll definitely be making another one soon.  Used 1930's reproduction fabrics again as they are such a fun thing for little people.

Just did out-line stitching on the blocks and a simple pattern for the borders.  Chose a bright yellow fabric for the binding.

Backed the quilt in a delicate floral flannel fabric.  I do not like working with flannel but it does make for a snuggly quilt for little ones.

Now, off to the post office as this is another quilt on it's way to Scotland.

Breagha's 1st Birthday Quilt from Grandma

Finally put the last stitches in Breagha's quilt and it's in the washer as I type this. It is the Puzzle Quilt - made with 1930's reproduction fabric (mostly the Aunt Grace line).  The quilt in comprised of 100 blocks with 9 pieces of fabric sewn per block.  A total of 900 pieces sewn and quilted.

I did the binding in a red to match the flannel backing - which is a Canadian themed fabric.  After all, if this quilt is being shipping to Scotland, it has to have some Canadian flavour added in!

On to my next project - a quilt for a little one (boy) not yet born but due in a few months.  My great niece Genna is expecting her second child, Connor, my great great nephew and he NEEDS a family quilt to snuggle under.

No Quilting Today

After two days of delaying, I finally tackled the Christmas tree.  It has been sitting in the livingroom and just glaring at me.....so it was time to get it done.  Believe me, I would have rather spent the time sitting at my sewing machine but I also love having the tree done so it wasn't really that much of an effort.

Things were going well until the customary accident occurred.

Don't you just hate it when things like that happen.  It was one of my favorite bulbs that I have had "forever".  It was a lovely dark red with gold stars on it and now it is gone forever.

Anyhow, after alot of reaching and bending, the tree is finally done with the exception of the angel on top - I can't seem to find her anywhere.

The picture really doesn't do the tree justice but it gives you an idea of what it really looks like.

Expensive Lesson Learned

A UPS truck just pulled up to my front door this evening.  Six yards of fabric that I have been patiently waiting for was finally being delivered.  It was only bleached muslin fabric but it was 120" wide and perfect for quilt backing.  The total cost of this fabric was only $40.80 and even when an additional charge of $18.99 for shipping was factored in....I still thought it was a bargain.  Imagine my stunned disbelief when UPS told me they needed another $33.12 for brokerage fees.  All of a sudden, my bargain turned into an expensive lesson regarding on-line shopping.  I love ordering fabric from the U.S. and should consider myself lucky that this is the first time I got stung with paying way too much for what I was getting.  I composed an indignant letter to the fabric store and have wiped that site from my list of places to order from.
http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/.  I also told them that I would put their link on my blog to warn other Canadian quilters about the cost of doing business with them. To add insult to injury.....the muslin isn't even very good quality, lol.

Getting Started

For so long now, I have read other quiltmaker's blogs and decided it was time to record my own.  I am tentatively doing this as it is a new adventure for me.
